How do I winterize my sprinkler system?

These instructions are given to you, our customer, to help make the job of winterizing a little easier.
STEP #1 Turn valve going to the sprinkling system to off. This valve should be located on the pipe which is headed outside.
STEP #2  Go outside to the vacuum breaker and open the two small "pet cocks" on the side. This will allow air to replace the water in the main line. These "pet cocks" must be left open all winter. Also turn both larger handles 45 degrees. (This will be half on half off)
STEP #3
Open the manual drain on the main line. This manual drain will allow water to drain from the top of the vacuum breaker and all of the main line. Some systems may have more than one manual drain. Depends on the elevation.
STEP #4 Return to the area where the valve to the sprinkling system is located. Just beyond the valve there should be a faucet connected to the pipe going outside. Open the faucet and allow the water to empty. This process allows the water to drain from the top of the vacuum breaker. Now your main line is free of water. The "lateral" lines which are the lines that feed off the main line are equipped with automatic drains which empty the zones after they are shut off. So those lateral lines are already empty.

How do I turn on my sprinkler system?

These instructions are given to you, our customer, to help make the job of turning on your sprinkler system a little easier.
Any questions you might have, that this information has not covered, will be welcomed. Our phone number is 616-669-2210, or FAX 616-669-7866, Also you may reach us by e-mail at davev@schepers.com.
STEP #1 Go outside to the vacuum breaker and close the two small "pet cocks" on the side. (These "pet cocks" will be left closed during the summer). Next, turn larger handles so they are parallel with the pipe coming out of the house and the one going into the ground.

STEP #2

Close the manual drain on the main line. Since all houses are not landscaped the same, some systems may have more than one manual drain. Some houses might have had a few mounds which we pulled the main line though, this is not a problem it simply means you will have to close more than one manual drain for the main line to pressurize.

STEP #3

Go inside the house where the meter is and find the sprinkler main valve, first close the drain valve above it, and then turn on the main valve.

STEP #4

Return to the sprinkling systems automatic clock. Plug it in and go through your system zone by zone, checking all heads.

How do I adjust my sprinkler heads?

Installing and Removing Nozzles
  1. Insert tool into pull-up slot, turn 90 degrees, and lift up stem. (A)
  2. Insert the desired nozzle into the nozzle socket, and turn the radius adjustment screw clockwise to secure the nozzle in place. (B)
  3. Insert the selected nozzle's identification plug into the opening on the top of the rotor.
  4. To remove the nozzle, first back out the radius adjustment screw. With a needle nose plier, grasp post under nozzle opening. Remove nozzle.
Note: To lift up stem, insert the tool, or a bladed screwdriver into the slot on the side of the turret cap.

Setting the Arc

The arc is adjustable from 40 -360 degrees (PC units only). The rotor is factory set to 180 degrees.

Align Fixed Left Edge:
  1. Pull up turret and turn to the left trip point (counterclockwise). CAUTION: If the rotor does not turn easily to the left, first turn it right (clockwise) to the right trip point.
  2. Next, turn the turret until the arrow points in the direction you want t set the left edge to.
To Increase the Arc: (C)
  1. While holding the nozzle turret at the fixed LEFT stop, insert tool or screwdriver into the adjustment socket.
  2. Turn the screwdriver clockwise, (+) to INCREASE arc.
  3. Each full clockwise turn of the screwdriver will add 90 degrees of arc.
  4. When the maximum arc of 360 degrees has been set, you will hear a ratcheting noise. Do not adjust the rotor beyond the maximum arc.
To Decrease the Arc: (D)
  1. While holding the nozzle turret at the fixed LEFT stop, insert tool or screwdriver into the adjustment socket.
  2. Turn the screwdriver counterclockwise, (-) to DECREASE arc.
  3. Each full counterclockwise turn of the screwdriver will remove 90 degrees of arc.
  4. When the minimum arc of 40 degrees has been set, you will hear a ratcheting noise. Do not adjust the rotor beyond the minimum arc.

Radius Adjustment
(Radius can be reduced up to 25%)
  1. Insert tool or screwdriver into the radius adjustment socket. (E)
  2. Turn the screwdriver clockwise to reduce radius, and counterclockwise to increase radius
